Firehouse Political Advocacy for Youth

Dr. Sonny Lara is the Firehouse political advocate for all things youth and young adults in ensuring their rights are not infringed upon by law enforcement and addressing inequitable laws. He has built trusted relationships with civic leaders, law enforcement, and elected officials to build healthy bridges between them and impacted communities.

Dr. Sonny's win-win approach is bridging difficult gaps but is necessary. He encourages Firehouse young people to interact positively with police, civic leaders, and elected officials representing their communities, and it helps them learn how to use their voices to bring change to their communities.

Juvenile Hall balanced and equitable system

The Juvenile Hall system must be balanced and equitable. For that to happen, community citizens must be willing to hold the system accountable and demand changes when it falls short of being a balanced, equitable, fair, and unbiased juvenile system. Dr. Sonny Lara is that person that throws the flag on the play that requires a review of youth cases to ensure fairness.
